The 3rd China Industrial Biotechnology Development Summit, themed "Innovation Supports Development, Industry Shapes the Future," was held on April 23-25 in Tianjin Binhai New Area. Li Jiayang, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Gou Lijun, member of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Binhai New Area Management Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

    Li Jiayang stated that the world economy is currently facing severe challenges, and innovation in biotechnology and the development of the bio-industry have been given even more important significance. Compared with traditional production methods, industrial biotechnology is clean, efficient and renewable. Promoting the progress and industrialization of industrial biotechnology is an important strategic approach for China to achieve sustainable socio-economic development.

    Gou Lijun stated that Tianjin attaches great importance to and supports the development of the bio-industry, and is currently committed to promoting the Binhai New Area as one of the R&D and transformation bases for industrial biotechnology.

    The forum was jointly organized by the Bureau of Life Sciences and Biotechnology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the High-Tech Industry Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, the China National Center for Biotechnology Development of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Chinese Society of Biotechnology.
